Rooftop solar subsidy, explained
PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana gives homes a central subsidy of up to ₹78,000 on grid-connected rooftop solar. Here is who qualifies, how much you get, and how we handle the HESCOM and portal process for you.
How much you get
₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW, ₹18,000 for the third kW, and a fixed ₹78,000 for anything 3 kW and above.
- 1 kW
- ₹30,000
- 2 kW
- ₹60,000
- 2.5 kW
- ₹69,000
- 3 kW and above
- ₹78,000
Central financial assistance for residential rooftop systems, as per the current scheme guidelines. Amounts can change — we confirm the latest figures with you before you sign.
Do you qualify?
Most homes do. If you can say yes to these, you are very likely eligible.
Check my eligibility- You are an Indian citizen and own the house where the panels go.
- The house has a valid HESCOM electricity connection in your name.
- There is enough shadow-free roof — about 100 sq ft for every kW.
- The household has not already taken a solar subsidy for this connection.
- The system is grid-connected, installed by a registered vendor, with approved (ALMM / DCR) modules.
How the subsidy reaches your bank
You do two things: share documents and sign. We handle the portal, HESCOM and the follow-up.

Do I pay the full price first?
Yes. You pay for the system, and the central subsidy is credited to your bank account after installation, HESCOM inspection and commissioning. Solar rooftop loans can cover the upfront amount.
How long does the subsidy take?
It depends on HESCOM inspection and portal processing. Once the net-meter is installed and the commissioning report is uploaded, the payment is released to your account — we track it until it arrives.
Is there a subsidy for shops or factories?
PM Surya Ghar covers residential rooftops (and common facilities of housing societies). Businesses benefit from lower daytime bills and tax advantages such as accelerated depreciation — see our page for businesses.
Can I choose microinverters and TOPCon modules under the subsidy?
Yes, as long as the modules are DCR / ALMM-compliant and the system is grid-connected. We specify subsidy-compliant TOPCon modules for every home project.
What about housing societies?
Group housing societies / RWAs can get assistance for common facilities such as lifts, water pumps and corridor lighting. Ask us for the current per-kW figure for your society.
